Smart Grid Senior Analyst / Analyst

Immediate opening for an Analyst or Senior Analyst in our Business Architecture & Technology Development department. This position is responsible for providing research and development in the field of Smart Grid.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Specifically, this position will focus on the SynchroPhasor Infrastructure and Data Utilization (SIDU) project, which will deploy Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) and Phasor Data Concentrators (PDC) across New England electric power system, build PMU based applications to improve situational awareness and system reliability.
  • This position will interact frequently with internal IT department and system operations, externally with project vendors, to provide technical solutions and software development to ensure the successful completion of the SIDU project.
  • In addition, this position will conduct research in Smart Grid solutions and emerging technologies, preparing our company for the upcoming challenges associated with Smart Grid deployment.
  • Job Requirements:

  • Master degree or higher in power systems or computer science.
  • Knowledge of power system modeling and operations, Energy Management Systems, Phasor Measurement Unit, and Phasor Data Concentrator.
  • Strong programming skills with software development experience are also required.
  • Exceptional teamwork, strong interpersonal and problem solving skills are critical.
  • Desired Requirements:

  • Understanding of signal processing methodologies is desirable.

Principal Application Architect

The Principal Application Architect position is responsible for providing direction and technical leadership to high priority projects in a variety of areas, including Energy and Market Operations but not limited to that area. This position will evaluate new and evolving business requirements and review/recommend appropriate systems and procedural alternatives. In concert with other company staff, this position will assist in the design and implementation of computer based business solutions.

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or Business
  • Min 5 years experience of AREVA /Alstom Electric Industry experience consisting of energy and market system operations, financial settlements, software development, and/or electrical engineering experience. (8 - 10 years experience desired)
  • 3-5 years experience in project development, implementation and/or management.
  • A thorough knowledge of application design methodologies is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of computer systems, application software development, and programming.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing is required.
  • Desirable qualities include:

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • Certification in JAVA, ORACLE or Project Management is a plus.

Lead Business Analyst

This position will be responsible for leading and supporting System Operations and Control Room Operations with job task analysis, job performance measures, training record compliance and reviewing and auditing of instructional training content.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, identify and incorporate new and existing compliance requirements into business processes and training activities and ensure systems and records are “audit-ready” and compliant with North American Electric Reliability Standards (NERC).
  • Lead Operations record management efforts to ensure audit readiness status.
  • Perform and support job task analysis (JTA) activities for System Operations.
  • Review and audit individual learning activities (ILA) instructional submissions and instructional material for classroom and computer based training (CBT) activities.
  • Assist in developing and conducting job performance measure (JPM) evaluations, developing training guides for System Operations as well as on-the-job task checklists and objectives.
  • Develop standards, processes, policies, and procedures for design, development, and delivery of Control Room Operations training.
  • Functional lead on assigned projects.
  • Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent education/experience
  • Minimum 10 years experience in training development and delivery and records management of curriculum.
  • Experience with web-based learning systems.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills and presentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills and ability to work with effectively with diverse groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, lead projects and meet established deadlines.
  • Knowledge of NPCC/NERC personnel training standards.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Desired qualities include:

  • NERC Certification desired.

Compliance Analyst

There is an immediate opening for a Compliance Analyst in the Finance Department. This position is responsible for Department of Energy (DOE) and American Reinvestment and Recovery Act reporting for grants received; supporting audits as they pertain to DOE compliance; ensuring compliance with all Regulatory filings, loan covenants, Massachusetts and Connecticut Personal Information Policy laws. This position will coordinate and administer compliance with business policy and procedure updates; subject matter expert for the Finance Department related to record retention guidelines, business policy and procedures.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in Finance, Business Management or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience writing business processes and procedures, SAS 70 or Sarbanes Oxley controls and procedures.
  • Strong organizational, verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Work independently and with others at all levels within the organization.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and a good working knowledge of SharePoint or other document repository product is required.
  • Desirable Qualities:

  • Federal Grant reporting experience is a plus for this position.

  • Operations Associate/ System Operator

    We hire Navy candidates who have Submarine or Nuclear (EOS, Maneuvering) experience. The position is located in the Springfield, MA area. The Operations Associate will be enrolled in our six month Training Operations Professionals Program which will provide them with the skills and knowledge needed to reliably operate the New England bulk power system in a variety of roles at our company i.e. Operations Engineer, Outage Coordinator, or System Operator.

    Job Requirements:

  • Successfully complete the TOP Program based upon the System Operator Initial Training.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operation of the advanced Energy Management System (EMS) and application of Operational Procedures, System Operating Procedures, and Transmission Operating Guides in a real-time environment in order to economically and reliably operate the New England bulk power system.
  • Successfully complete the NERC System Operator certification examination and obtain the Reliability Coordinator credential.
  • Must Have: A Bachelor degree, and 3 years of formal technical training.
  • Must have: System Operations (Engine Room experience) or EOS or Maneuvering experience or as a Qualified: Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW), Engineering Watch Supervisor, Engine Room Supervisor, Nuclear Repair Coordinator, Reactor Operator, Engineering Watch Officer, as a Nuclear Machinist Mate, Electricians Mate, Electronics Technician, or Leading Petty Officer.
  • Must have experience in: Maneuvering, Engineering Controls, Engine Room, or Nuclear Plant Operations.
  • Ability to handle a fast paced environment and work a rotating shift (We provide a ”Family oriented” work schedule: SEE BELOW)
  • Spare weeks (Tues - Fri, 8-hour days) Training weeks (Mon - Fri, 8-hour days) Shift days are highly variable in terms of how busy they are. Lieu Days If a scheduled day off lands on a holiday you get another day off (lieu day) whenever you want. Depending on the shift rotation, you can end up with quite a few of these extra days off. Most everyone takes vacation during the four-day spare week that lands after the normally-scheduled 8-day off - for a total 14 days off. Since you have fifteen days off every year (some lieu days), a system operator can potentially have **four** 2-week vacation periods. I can't think of other job that pays this well and allows this much flexibility.
